Artificial intelligence supports computers in thinking like humans, enabling them to solve complex problems just like humans. Problems requiring intelligence and reasoning can be effectively addressed with the help of artificial intelligence through computer assistance.

Examples of subfields within artificial intelligence include automated reasoning, evolutionary computation, and machine learning. Siri by Apple, Google’s personal assistant Google Now, and Tesla’s autonomous self-driving vehicles are instances of artificial intelligence applications.

History of Artificial Intelligence.

The term ‘Artificial Intelligence‘ was first coined by Prof. John McCarthy during the Dartmouth Conference in 1956. Subsequently, various efforts were made to develop artificial intelligence in many different areas.

The victory of the computer named “Deep Blue” developed by IBM, over the world chess champion Garry Kasparov in 1997 changed people’s perspective on artificial intelligence. In 2011, IBM’s computer named “Watson” defeating opponents in a television quiz show demonstrated that artificial intelligence could surpass humans not only in mathematical subjects.

In 2016, Google DeepMind developed a learning artificial neural network inspired by how humans play games. The program called “AlphaGo,” created by the company, defeated the world “Go” champion Lee Sedol, revealing that artificial intelligence could excel in games much more complex than chess.

What Are the Application Areas of Artificial Intelligence?

Speech Recognition: For computers to recognize sounds, the microphone captures the sound and converts it into digital form, creating frequencies. These frequencies are then analyzed to understand letters or words and converted into numbers. This way, artificial intelligence recognizes, comprehends, and responds to sound. Siri, Now, Echo, and Cortana are examples of artificial intelligence applications that excel in speech recognition.

Image Processing: Images captured with a camera are digitized into pixels and then transformed into code. Artificial intelligence algorithms interpret these codes. Autonomous vehicles provide an excellent example of image processing.

Natural Language Processing: It is one of the most challenging areas of artificial intelligence. It generates solutions to maximize human-computer interaction or enhance communication between individuals speaking different languages. In natural language processing, deep learning, machine learning, statistical analysis, and rule-based approaches are used.

Natural language processing is applied in various contexts, from correcting spelling mistakes to automatic translation systems, language learning applications to personal assistant applications. Examples of natural language processing include Google, Yandex, Siri, and Google Assistant.

Reasoning: Reasoning is the process of reaching a judgment by listening to opposing arguments from two sides. Through the reasoning feature, artificial intelligence uses existing data to create various algorithms and can make the most rational decision. For example, just as a judge in a court can distinguish between the guilty and the innocent after examining evidence and listening to the parties, artificial intelligence, through its reasoning feature, can differentiate between the guilty and the innocent.
